SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

LINWOOD. A meeting of the committee was held in' the school on Wednesday, there being present—Messrs R. Carter (chairman), F. G. King, H. H. Wilson, H, F. Herbert, D. F. Coulter, G. Phillips, and H. 3. Bowlker (hon. sec). The acting-headmaster (Mr D. M. Shirlaw) reported that the attendance for the month had been very good, the average being 682.5 out of a roll number of 727. The arrangements for the children's concert in aid of the War Memorial Fund, to be held in the Choral Hall oh November 27, are well in hand. An egg day was recently held for. the same object, with satisfactory results. It was decided to vote up to £lO for school prizes and certificates. The secretary was instructed to write to the Education Department pointing out once more that the promised additions to the school had not yet been commenced, and that the position as regards overcrowding was becoming steadily worse.
