The Hon. D. Bnddo arrived in Christchurch from Wellington this morning. The Auckland Presbytery has nominated the Rev. W. J. Comrie, of Wellington, as the next Moderator of the General Assembly. Mr H. R. Sellers, ' secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference, who returned to Christchureh yesterday, will resume his duties in a few days. Mr A. W. Gardiner, of the.lnvercargill staff of the National Bank, has been transferred to Christchureh. Ho was a prominent footballtr in the south. The Rev. R, Miller, M.A., who saw service as a chaplain with the Forces in France, has been appointed pastQr of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Kaikoura, in place of the Rev. W. Mc-Ara, who has resigned. The Rev. n. W. Burridge, minister of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Invercargill, has accepted the position of locum tenens to Dr Gibb, in St. John's, Wellington, during the absence for from six to nine months of the Doctor on a Church mission to England. Mr Burridge, who will leave Invercargill for Wellington about the middle of December, will probably resign the ministry of St. Paul's. Private advice from Melbourne states that Mr P. J. Hamilton has been appointed general secretary of the Australasian branch of the' Sudan United Mission. Mr Hamilton, who was for four years a Presbyterian home missionary in Victoria, has spent the last four years in War service with the Y.M.C.A., in Egypt, France, and Palestine. Mr D. N. MacDiarmid, 8.A., who previously occupied the position, intends to return to the Southern Sudan shortly, but will make a brief trip to New Zealand first. At the Rangiora Magistrate's Court yesterday morning, Mr V. G. Day, S.M., in taking his seat for the first time since his new appointment, was accorded a cordial welcome from the Bar, expressed by Mr H. C. van Asch and from the Justices of the Peace, for whom Mr C. I. Jennings spoke and introduced Messrs J. Marshall, W. MeGruer and F. B. Lane, J.P.'s. Mr Day, in acknowledging the welcome extended him, said that he appreciated the expression of good feeling shown him on his return to the district.
