PERSONALS.
Dr H. T. J. Thacker, M.P., Mayor of Christchurch, and Mrs Thacker returned from Wellington this morning. Mr and Mrs N. L. Macbeth, of Christchurch, who have been visiting England and America, returned this morning. The Hon. J. Grimmond, M.L.C., was amongst the passengers from Wellington by the ferry steamer Manuka this morning. Mr and Mrs M. S. Brown, of Webb Street, accompanied by Mr and Mrs Fred Lomas, of Wanganui, have returned from a motor trip to Dunedin. The Rev. C. H. Grant Cowan, 8.A., vicar of Hawera, has been appointed vicar of St. Matthew's, Auckland, in succession to the Rev. W. E. Gillam, resigned. Mr Cowan probably will take up his new duties in February. The following committee has been elected by the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Society of Accountants: —Messrs H. T. Whittingham (chairman), W. E. Best, J. Morrison. L. L. Cordery, C. Buchanan, W. T. Bottrell, and 11. S. Cordery. .
