SOCIAL HYGIENE SOCIETY.

The Social Hygiene Committee met on Friday last, Mrs Roberts presiding over a full attendance. A letter was received from Dr Makgill, Acting-Chief Health Officer, expressing appreciation of the society's work and giving information re the steps being taken by the Publie Health Department to meet the need of sufferers from aocial diseases. Dr Arthur Thomson wrote, expressing his desire to assist the society's work in any way in his power. An appeal was received from the Asssociation for Moral and Social Hygiene, London, for help in a campaign against regulated, tolerated, or segregated prostitution within the British Empire. It was agreed that a substantial donation be sent, as a token of sympathy in the work. There had been 140 callers at the room, among them several men and boys, and the society considered that a similar society for men is urgently needed. The president reported that, ■with this end in view, she, together with the secretary, Mr Holland, Dr Currie, Mr Kenner, and Mrs. Bannehr, had waited on the Hospital Board Committee and laid such facts before it as they considered demonstrated the need for work amongst men. The resolution passed by the Waikato Hospital and Charitable Aid Board re marriage certificates was received and heartily supported. It was resolved to seek the assistance of other women's societies in support of the proposal.
