WELLINGTON, November 3. The demands of the New Zealand Federated Tramways Employees' Association for a national agreement to covet wages and working conditions' in Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch,. ■Uunedin, New Plymouth, Wanganni, Napier and Invercargill have been circulated. Motormen now start at 1/4| per hour. The proposed new rate is 1/10. The maximum rate now is 1/6 for over four years' service, and 1/6J after seven years, whereas the associa- - tion asks for 2/4 all round for the second year and after. The increases demanded for conductors are in proportion, and governed by the same principle. The Association asks that the. broken shift should begin before 8 a.m., . and spread over 11 hours instead of 12. All time worked in excess of eight hours shall be paid for at time and a-half rates for the first two hours and double, time thereafter. A demand is made § that all employees required to work on statutory holidays shall receive annually a minimum of 14 consecutive days' 1 holiday, Sundays excepted, the leave to be on full pay. All employees not required to work on statutory holidays. _ shall be paid for such days at ordinary ~ rates. The association also asks tar sick pay, and for a spare list.
