RAILWAY CADET KILLED.
A SHOOTIHtf ACCIDENT.
The accidental discharge of a pea* rifle was responsible for the "death, in the Ashburton Hospital yesterday, ox I Duncan Erickson, a railway cadet, 17 years of age, who was stationed at! Methven, but whose parents reside at 20 Sumner Street, Spreydon. With three other lads, Erickson wa» Bhooting at Winchmore yesterday* When the rainstorm came on, the party sought shelter in the Winchmore HalJ. It is stated that Erickson was resting his weight on his pea-rifle, and it went off somehow, the charge entering his abdomen. He was removed to the Ashburton Hospital, where he was operated on, succumbing soon afterwards. Aa inquest is to be held.
