ALLOCATING THE FUNDS. Prut Atsocialion. WELLINGTON, September <U A meeting of the executive of the Trentham Art Union was held to-night to discuss proposals for the establishment of Trentham scholarships, and applications therefor. Mr S. Kirkcaldie, -who presided, said that the executive would be able to hand over to the trustees about £36,000, which, on a 20 years' basis, at 4J per cent., would yield £2500 per year. A scheme suggested by Dr Anderson, Director of Education, for special scholarships " for children, showing distinct ability, was read. A sub-committee was appointed to draw up a scheme for allocating the fund, and. to report to a subsequent meeting. It was resolved that a' general fund be utilised to give assistance, where found necessary, to the guardians of all children of deceased or disabled soldiers, after the completion of the children's primary school course, and that the proceeds of the fund be allocated partly to the advanced general education- of the more capable children, and partly to giving vocational training to those who are not fitted for uiulertak- j ing the ordinary secondary school course, or who do not desire to do so. j

It was decided to recommend to the trustees that no distinction should be ma'de between public and private secondary or other schools of equal edncatioual standing. The chairman was authorised to consult the Solicitor-General, and Mr. C. P. Skerrett, K.C., in .respect to drawing up a scheme for the administration of the fund.
