COAL SUPPLIES.
POSITION OF RAILWAYS. A CHEERING STATEMENT. EARLY IMPROVEMENT EXPECTED, [From Onr Own Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, September 4. Replying to a question without notice asked by Hon. A. M. Myers (Auckland East) in the House of Representatives this evening, the Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey made a very cheering statement regarding the railway coal position. Speaking as Minister of Railways, Mr Massey said that he had seen the General Manager to-day, and had been informed that, if it were not for the fact that the coal outlook in New Zealand itself was not so good as it ought-to be, we should very soon be in the position of getting back to normal, so far as the railway service was concerned. Mr G. Witty (Riccarton): In both islands? Mr Massey: Yes! He added that, so far as the carriage of goods was concerned, there was not very much to complain of now, and he hoped to be able to make a very considerable improvement in passenger traffic during the week, commencing with next Monday.
