OUTBREAKS OF FIRE.
OLD DWELLING DESTROYED. An old dwellinghouse, which was unoccupied, at the corner of Cutler's Eoad and Riccarton Road, was totally destroyed by fire about 9.30 o'clock last night. It was the property of the estate of the late Mr Wm. Cutler. The Fire Brigade received a call at 7.45 o'clock last evening to the residence of Mr W. Eden, 35 Gordon Avenue, St. Albans. It was found that a bed had been set on fire by a candle, but the occupants had managed to check the outbreak, the damage being confined to the destruction of the bed and bedding and to slight damage to the contents of the room by fire and smoke. The furniture, is uninsured, but an insurance of £4OO in the Alliance office is in force on the house. A live hedge at the intersection of Hayward Terrace and Fitzgerald Avenue caught fire last evening. The Fire Brigade received a call at 9.16 p.m., and extinguished the blaze. About 10 or 12 feet of fencing was destroyed.
