LABOUR REPRESENTATION COMMITTEE.
The Labour Representation Committee met on Saturday evening in the Trades Hall. Mr F. Cooke presided, and delegates from affiliated unions and branches.of the Labour Party/were present. An interesting discussion took place on the results \of the late local elections, satisfaction generally being expressed at the result and the, largelyincreased Labour vote. | '■ Arrangements were made for establishing branches of the Labour Party'in suburban, and , country districts, and 'for the selection by ballot of candidates:for various Parliamentary, seats, in and around the city. ■■'■:> < With reference to the tramway accident, a resolution was carried unanimously:— "That on open inquiry be held by the Public- Works Department into various matters relating to the running of the tram-, ways, notably overcrowding, the speed limit regulation, and the obsolete cars." It was unanimously resolved:—"That a deputation from this eommfttec wait upon the Minister of Justice, urging that the conscientious objectors . now imprisoned should be Immediately released."
