The Liberty Theatre was packed last evening when Mr G. AV. W. B. Mr J. I. ltoyds presided. The pictures shown were explained by Mr Hughes and they w T ere a revelation of the comprehensive energies of the Y.M.C.A. in catering for the comfort of the troops. From the splendid "Shakespeare Hut," in London, the audience was show-n the arrangements made by the Y.M.C.A. in training camp, base and fire area, Some of the Y.M.C.A. dugouts were shown suffering from the effects of a Fritz strafe. However, in the pictures shown the Y.M.C.A. was not allowed to obtrude unduly aud the men were' depicted at drill, on leave, and engaged in many of their preparation activities. At the conclusion, Mr Hughes was accorded a hearty vote of thanks on the motion of the Mayor (Dr H. T. J. ThaeJter, M.P.) Mr Hughes yesterday afternoon gave an address on "Ideals," to an attendance of about fifty young men at the Y.M.C.A. He stated that many who had gone away had lost ideals and others had been lowered. It was necessary that they should "check up,?' otherwise they would become paupers in character.
