STRANDED NEW ZEALANDERS. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. SYDNEY, May 18. A meeting of 113 stranded New Zealanders adopted a resolution to cable to Sir James Allen, demanding the right to return immediately, and urging that the Manuka, sailing on May 22, should be allowed to take passengers. The meeting also resolved to take action against the New Zealand Government for expenses incurred through their detention in Sydney. The chief contention of the speakers was that the real cause of their detention was hot the extent of influenza in Australia, but the alleged inadequate quarantine accommodation at the various stations in New Zealand.

CASES IN BRISBANE. (Rec. May 19, 9.0) BRISBANE, May 19. There.are 1819 influenza cases to. date. J A FURTHER DECREASE. (Rec. May 19. 9.0) SYDNEY, May 19. The week's influenza figures show a further decrease. There are 41 deaths, and 358 cases. TOTALS SO FAR. (Rec. May 19, noon) SYDNEY, May 19. Returns to May 14 show that there were 1673 deaths from influenza in New South Wales, and 2016 in Victoria. CASES IN CANTERBURY. Between noon last Thursday and noon to-day, only six new cases of influenza were reported in Canterbury. All but one—a pneumonic case in South Canterbury—are mild. Of the six cases, two are in the North Canterbury Hospital Board's district, one being at Rangiora and the other at St. Albans. Ashburton reported one case, and South Canterbury three, two of which are in Otaio, and the other in Temuka. In the earlier part of last week, 10 cases were reported in. Canterbury—eight of them being in North Canterbury —but only one was pneumonic. No deaths due to influenza have occurred in the province during the week.
