The annual report of the South Island Dairy Association, to be presented to the general meeting of members, in DuDedin, next, month, gives some interesting figures of dairy produce exports for the year ended April 30, 1919. South Island shipments for the year, with the quantities of cheese remaining in store at the various ports at its end, were as follow: — CHEESE. Crates. Crates in shipped. . store. Jakins 92 Total ~ 17,345 CANTERBURY REMITS. Remits from three Canterbury factories will come up for consideration at the annual meeting. They are as follow: — Ashburiton Co-operative Dairy Company: ," The outlook in the near future for shipping freights on all farm produce is a serious menace td the prosperity of New Zealand, and it is therefore imperative that all dairy companies and meat export companies combine for common defence and support of a fair rate of freight.'.' Clandeboye Co-operative Dairy Company: "That a committee be set up: (a) To consider the best means of obtahiing cheaper insurance and storage facilities; (b) the appointment of a commercial expert to assist in shaping a more progressive policy for the association." Staveley Cooperative Dairy Company: '' That a committee be set up to report to the association on the practicability of a general insurauce scheme for the dairying industrv.'' OTHER POINTS. Included in the remits from Southland companies are several which are of wide interest, as, for example, the following:— Edendale Co-operative Dairy Factory Company: (1) Disposal of output of cheese: "That this meeting of delegates is of opinion that the best way to secure full market price for cheese on the British market is to combine, and ship through the association to one duly appointed agent at Home." (2) Rennet: "Has the association taken any steps to secure a permanent supply of British-made rennet? If not, that it be a recommendation to the executive to take such action as may be necessary to secure such supplies." ■ > ; Birehwood Co-operative Dairy CoiuIpany: (1) "That it be a,recommendation to dairy factories to promste the formation of herd-testing associations." (2-) "That the Government bo urged to hire from selected centres purebred bulls of proved milking strain merit to bona fido dairymen at reasonable rates."
