America's recognition of the British protectoratei over Egypt has had a sobering effect, and brought home to the minds or the extremists the futility of theit exaggerated aspirations. Rushdi formed a Cabinet during the. critical period and helped the authorities to calm the disturbance. He withheld his resignatiom until order was restored, and the Government servants resumed work. The extremists, who had been boasting of America's help, are astounded that Mr Wilson has recognised thd British protectorate. .
