Gainsborough, the winner was successful In the New Derby a fortnight ago, and this success entitles him to be considered the best three-year-old of the season. Plant, who is credited with being second, may turn out to be Major Astor's Blink, who acted as runner-up in the New Derby.

A meeting of dairymen was held at the Addington yards this afternoon to consider the question of raising the wholesale price of milk from 1/- to 1/2 per gallon. It was decided that the increase be made. This will probably mean that the retail price will rise from 5d to 6d per quart. The Hon. G. W. Bussell, Minister of Internal Affairs, will arrive in Christchurch to-morrow morning, and remain until Saturday evening, when he will return to Wellington.
