THE NURSING SERVICE.
MISS CAMERON DECORATED. liy Cable. — Prtsu Association. — Copyright. (Rec. April 5, 8.50) SYDNEY, April 5. The Governor-General presented Nurse M. Cameron, of the New Zealand Nursing Service, with the insignia of the Royal Red Cross of the first class. [Nurse Cameron, although an Australiantrained nurse, spent some years in New Zealand, having been a Sister at the Cambridge Sanatorium (where she was associated with the late Nurse Rochfort, who
died in California some little time ago), and later on matron of St. Helens, Christchurch. She went to Egypt in charge of the second draft of nurses from New Zealand, and was in charge of the No. 1 Stationary Hospital. It was on a voyage to Salonica in the ill-fated Marquette that Miss Cameron received injuries, consequent upon the torpedoing of the ship, which has made her an invalid ever since. For two years after her return to New Zealand she was an inmate of a private hospital in Christehurch, and left last December to make her home with her relatives in Australia. The honour that has been conferred upon her has been richly deserved, and will perhaps serve to slightly ameliorate the lot of one who has sacrificed so much at her country's call.]
