WOOLSTON BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The Woolston Borough Council met ’last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr McGregor Wright), Crs T. Champ, ,T. C. Hobson, L. Hart, D. Mcßae, T. Ead- • eliffe, and G. 11. Borrows. The Finance Committee reported that the credit bank balance was £276 7/10. Mr T. W. P. Round, who was leaving the district, had tendered his resignation as one of tire Sinking Fund Commissioners. The committee recommended the acceptance of the resignation with regret, and that the thanks of the council be recorded to Mr Round for his past services. It also recommended that the Sinking Fund Commissioners be advised to invest accumulated funds in the War Loan.—The report was adopted. The Electricity Committee reported that three houses had been wired, and additions made in two, the total cost being £37 16/1. The committee had again considered the by-laws, and approved of wiremen’s licenses being issued wdthout fee. It was decided to hold over decision regarding the by-laws until the next meeting of the council. The Reserves Committee recommend*ed that the application of the Ngaio * Hockey Club and the Woolston Rugby Football Club for playing grounds be •granted, on the condition that each deposits £1 1/- as a guarantee that the council’s rules will be observed, the, amount to be refunded at the end of the season.—The report was adopted. Cr Champ moved that the question of the allotment of grounds be left in the hands of the Reserves Committee, with power to act. —The motion was carried. The manager of the Tramways Board wrote regarding the excessive speed of motor cyclists in the Borough of W’oolston, having in view a particularly aggravating case.—lt was decided to put the matter in the hands of the council’s solicitor, so that he might take action regarding it. i The Woolston Fire Brigade challenged the council to a billiards and card match.-—lt was decided to accept the challenge, and Crs White, Hart, Radcliffe, Mcßae, Hobson, and Borrows were appointed the council's champions. Cr Hart moved that nothing be placed on the council’s agenda paper unless the communication concerning it was received before 12 o’clock on the day of the meeting of the council, except by consent of the council as a whole.—The motion was carried. The foreman reported that ho ha 1 under consideration a scheme which, if carried out, would give the ratepayers a .fortnightly service of rubbish collection.
