Mr and Mrs Maine (Wellington) are (Staying at the United Service. The Victoria League delegates will be entertained at an “At home,” to be held at “To Whare,” Hereford Street, to-night, when her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool and party will be present. Miss Hattie Hall-Jones, who has just been promoted to the position of second assistant at the Central Infant School (Montessori), at Wanganui, is a daughter of the Hon. Sir William Hall-Jones, M.L.C. Dr Isabella Phillips is acting ns medical superintendent of the Melbourne Hospital during the absence of the regular superintendent. This is the first .time in the history of the institution that a woman has been in charge. To-morrow afternoon’s tea in aid of the Red Cross Funds, at the Art Society’s exhibition, will be given by the S resident, Mr Norman Macbeth, and [rs Macbeth. For music-lovers a good musical programme has been arranged by Mrs Osmond Smith. The president is anxious to make a complete success of the affair, and would like all members and their friends to be present. Mrs Lucas (Gloucester Street) gave a •yery enjoyable coin evening on Wednesday to assist the funds of the 'V.M.C.A., the sum of £4 10/- being collected. The first part of the evening was devoted to music, items being rendered by Mrs John Guthrie Misses AliCon Jennings, Morton, D. Beadel, R. Boss, and Lucas. After supper, games Concluded a very pleasant evening. Those present included: Mrs John Guthrie, Misses Elworthy, Pratt, Stella Murraly, Wyn Harley, Kitty Lane, Cotton, Morton, Hanmer, Bond, Samuel, Alison Jennings, Sharp, Teschemaker (2), Joseph, Kitto (2), Straehey (2), M. Robinson, Cayley-Robinson (2), Cottcrill, Ross, Reeves, Campbell, and Sleigh.
