The "Daily Telegraph" critic says that an analysis of the circumstances of Desert Gold's defeat in the -King's Plate ought to satisfy unprejudiced people that it does not prove that the "mare cannot run two miles, and a further test should be awaited. She may not be a true stayer, one of the Carbine kind, but it is surely too early to jump to the conclusion that the champion mare is only a middle distance performer.
