MUSIC AT THE ART GALLERY.

•The musical recital arranged by Madame Gower Burns at the Art Gallery yesterday afternoon was very successful. Unfortunately, owing to iilbealth, Madame Burns was unable to be present. Amongst those taking were two of her students, Mrs Bischlager and Miss Metz, who made very successful first appearances, and received the personal congratulations of her Excellency the Countess of Liverpool. Mrs Gilbert Hutton sang artistically “When You Gome Home” and “Echo.” Mrs John Guthrie contributed two ’cello solos, a “Minuet” by Popper and a little “Legend” by Norck. Mrs Bussell played the accompaniments. Mrs Bischlagcr’s songs were “The Songs My Mother Taught Me” (Dvorak) ‘ ‘ The "Wood Pigeon” (Liza Lehmann), and “A Gift” (Mae Loughnan). Miss M6fz sang “Until” (Saunders), “Open Your Blue Eyes” (Massenet), and "Down” (Cadman). A tea was given Mesdames A. E. G. Rhodes and M. Godby, who were assisted by Mesdames G. Blanch and Henry Wood and the Misses Joan Lee, Ella Ilelmore, Hope Wood, Sylvia Westenra, Kitty Lane, Betty Northcote, Rita Wilson, Gladys Knight, and Neroli Knight. Mesdames A. E. G. Rhodes, M. Godby, and G. Blanch received her Excellency Lady Liverpool, who was accompanied by Mr ITeathcotc Helmore. Little Juliet Williams presented her Excellency with a beautiful bouquet of mauve scabias, purple asters, and maidenhair fern. Lady Liverpool was wearing a charming gown of black satin, relieved with touches of white and violet. Her large violet hat was trimmed with black fox fur. The tea tables were set out in a corner of the permanent collection room, vases of bonfire ealvia making a pretty note of colour against the white cloths and dainty White caps and dresses of the attendants. A stall was arranged most attractively with bowls of daisies, asters, and dahlias, and baskets of grapes, pears, and apples, all sent from Mr A. E. G. Rhodes’s garden. Amongst those present were: Sir George Clifford and Miss June Clifford, Mrs A. Boyle, Mrs Algar Williams, Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, Mrs Hutton, Mrs W. Symes, Mrs Vernon, Mrs Bridge, Miss Craig, Mrs Arthur Harper, Mias N. Duffy, Mias Winifred Reed, Mrs C. J. Treleaven, Mrs George Rhodes, Mrs A. K. Firth, and Mrs Metz. In the evening Mr F. C. Raphael’s concert party gave the musical programme, which was, by the way, their 132 nd patriotic concert. Songs were given by Mesdames B. B. Wood, F. C. Cother, Miss Coralie McKellar, Messrs Bex. Harrison, H. Gill, and B. B. Wood. Mr Vcre Buchanan gave a violin solo, Mr Colin Campbell a concertina solo, Mr P. C. Raphael a ballad horn solo, and Mr A. C. Hutton a piccolo solo. Little Marjorie Frostick danced a little butterfly dance. Miss Lilian Harper was the accompanist. The supper was given by Mrs A. McKellar, assisted by a number of pretty girls in white dresses and caps. Amongst the many present were: Lady Ward, Mr and Mrs Ken Williams, Mrs Boys, Mrs Savill, Miss Hope Wood, Mr and Mrs William Wood, Mr Menzles Gibb, Mrs Hugh Acland, Mr Richard Wallwork, Colonel and Mrs Snow, Misses Snow (2), Mr and Mrs M. S. Brown. Mr and Mrs Norman Macbeth, Mrs W. Day, Mr and Mrs F. M. Warren, Mr and Mrs A. McKellar, Mr and Mrs J. C. Clarkson, Mr and Mrs Robert Hay, Mrs and Miss Baxter, Mrs Frank Dcighton, Mrs Chapman, and Mr G. L. Donaldson.
