Dash) had slighted them by ignoring the council and calling a mooting of citizens to arrange a reception to the Minister of .Education this week—this being the last of a succession of griev-ances—to-night declined to transact any urgent business, and informed tSie Mayor they would resign in a body, as they could not work with him. A deputation from the racing club asked for a half-holiday on race day.
The Mayor claimed it was his prerogative to grant or refuse the request, and he would refuse it. Councillors took the matter out of his hands, and instructed the town clerk to advertise a half-holiday.
