Miss Doris Hassall, of Christchurch, took up a temporary position on the staff of the Eakaia School to-day.
Mr Logan Paterson, Selwyn Street, has received advice that his son, Sergeant Stanley L. Paterson, is returning invalided.
Captain J. B. Hine, M.P. for Stratford, who is serving in Palestine with the Mounted Rifles, is making a good recovery from his wounds. News has been received that Private Alex. Swanston, well known in football circles in the Ellesmere district, has been gassed and wounded. The Rev. W. A. Kcay, curate of St. Mark's, Wellington, has accepted the parish of the Holy Sepulchre, Auckland, left vacant by the death of the Rev. A. 11. Colvile.
Mr E. J. Edwards, of .the Blenheim ofiicc of the Public Works Department, has received notice of his promotion to chief clerk at the State coal mines ofl'nje, Grevmouth.
Mrs L. R. Hood, of 389 Durham Street, has been advised that her husband, Corporal Leslie Robert Hood, who has been on active service for 18 months, is returning home invalided.
Advice has been received by Mrs Bullivaut, 212 Kihnore Street, that her brother, Lieut. Frank R. Bushell,_ who was severely wounded in the head, is expected to arrive in the Dominion shortly.
Mr F. L. Severuc, senior clerk, Education Department, has been appointed returning officer for the election of members' for the General Council of Rdueation, which will lie held on May l.'i.
Mrs E. Lcshkc, 7 York Street, Opawa, who was recently informed that her sum, Private Arthur Leshke, had been awarded the Military Medal, has received a later message stating that he was wounded in the arm and buttock on January 1. and is now in the Xew Zealand General Hospital, Broekenhurst. Mr A. N. Burns, M.A. (president of the Xew Zealand Educational Institute), at present headmaster at the Lower Hutt District High School, has been appointed a temporary inspector under the Education Department to assist in {he Wellington education district. Mr W. X. Dempsey, who has been headmaster at the Ekctahuna District High School for the past .17 years and is shortly to retire on superannuation, will succeed Mr Burns at Lower Hutt. The Very Bev. Dr Kennedy, formerly rector of' St. Patrick's College, left Wellington on Saturday to take charge of the seminary at Greenmeadows. On Friday night, at the college, lie was accorded a formal farewell by the boys and staff, the new rector, 'the Rev. Father Gilbert, S.M., presiding. Father Gilbert spoke in glowing terms of the excellent work done on behalf of the college by Dr Kennedy during the last nine or ten years. The boys presented an appreciative address to Dr Kennedy, and on their behalf he was presented with a roll-top desk. Mr and Mrs P. Olson, of Lyttelton, have received private advice that their
second son, Sergeant-Major 10. Olson. who was admitted to Cannock Chase Hospital on February 1 suffering from an attack of pneumonia, is progressing favourably. Sergeant-Major Olson, previous to enlisting, was on the staff of Messrs Ashby, Bergh, ami Co., Ltd., Christehureh. He entered camp with the 22nd Reinforcement as an n.c.0., and finally sailed as a C.S.M. with the 29th Reinforcement. Tie was on the instructional staff of the Bide Brigade at Broeton Camp previous to his illness.
