MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TO-DAY'S CASES. Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court this morning. Procuring Liquor while Prohibited.— James Alfred Smith and Peter Bryson, for breaches of their prohibition orders, were fined 20/- each. Elizabeth Lyall Harris, similarly charged, said that she was working on licensed premises, not knowing that it was an offence. She was convicted and discharged. Alleged Theft. —Thomas Francis McMillan (Mr Hunt) was charged with the theft of goods valued at £BO, '•ne property of Edith Wills. He was also charged with being an idle and disorderly person, having insufficient lawful means of support. He was remanded until Friday, bail being allowed in his own recognisance of £IOO. Wife Desertion. —Harry Xewell, on a charge of wife desertion, was remanded to appear at Auckland on Friday. Escaping from Gaol.—Hilda Kobertstein was charged with escaping from the Addington Gaol before the expiration of the term of three years to which she had been sentenced. Accused pleaded guilty. She was ordered to be returned to the gaol.

Maintenance Cases. Alexander Craib, for disobedience of a maintenance order, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. Arthur Groves Wilson was charged with disobedience of a maintenance order, and was also proceeded against by his wife for security under the order. "Wilson was ordered to find security in £IOO, anil was sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment. Harry West Darling Hills (Mr Hunt) was proceeded against for failing to maintain his wife. The case was adjourned for a month in order to see whether the parties could not come to some amicable arrangement. Patriot William Tilley was sentenced t£> two months' imprisonment for disobedience of a maintenance order.
