Praise for the Daisy
A certain prince went out into his vineyard to tW<p examine it, and he came to a peach tree, and said: —• s^cj| "What are you doing for me?" #zM The tree said:—"ln the spring I give my bios- oSy soms and fill.the air with fragrance, and on my kHVB houghs hangs the fruit which presently men will 1 gather and carry into the palace for you." a The prince said:—"Well done, my good and Jj faithful servant." M Then he went down into the meadow, and said f7l to the waving grass:—"What are you doing?" In And the grass replied:—"We are giving our u-i lives for others —for your sheep and cattle—that if/* they may he nourished." r0 ' 'Well done,'' said the prince, "good and faith- w%\ ful servants, that give up your lives for others." ALXj And then he came to a little daisy that was VJ-y* growing in the hedgerow, and said: —"What are He^ you doing?" .«, And the daisy said:—-"Nothing! Nothing! I Y%A cannot make a nesting-place for the birds, I cannot fe^ give shelter to the cattle, I cannot send fruit into »_fi your palace, and I cannot even furnish food for the 'sn sheep and cows; they do not want me in the meadow. |/jf All I can do is to be the best daisy I can be.'' ?& And the prince bent down and | / ed the daisy and said: "There |Y one better than you."
