There was a large number of spectators at Riccartoil tin's morning to witness th« final gallops, most of which were accomplished on the inside of the trial grass track. As the going was rather holding time-making was out of the question. Croesus, galloping freely, got to the end of five furlongs in Imin 4 2-ssec. Mnrgerinc, from a stand, registered a smart gallop In getting to the end of six furlongs in Imin 18scc. Mc.ncl-.us finished in front of Johnny Walker over a mile run in lniin 49sec. Seadown was better than Nystad over six furlongs, run in Imin 19 2-ssec. Gaziquc galloped half a mile down the back brilliantly in 49 ii-fisec.' Gamecock, with a couple of lengths start, had Adjutant for a companion over a mile. The former got the verdict by a head, in Imin 47 3-S.SCC. « Parana was just in front of Mutlfual, with Cleft two lengths away, over li miles, run in 2.lssec. Miss de Val had a companion over six furlongs run in Imin 19 2-Ssec. Marsa, Snub and Rorke's Drift were sent over 1J miles. When the post was reached ' Marsa was half a length in front of Snub, with Rorke's Drift a bad third. Marsn's time was 2mln Msec. Sleight of Hand was worked by himself. He does not appear to gallop so well as on his arrival at Riccarton. Impediment and Teka finished together at the end of a mile and a quarter gallop. He seemed to have had caough when' the post was reached. Bon, was going better than Subterfuge over six. furlongs, run in Imin 19 3-sscc. Samisen went.half a mile in 50sec. Paul Huon and Win All cast several rounds behind at half pace, and easy tasks were apportioned Commander Bell and Tho Sprinter. Annctt lias his two charges looking in nice„order. J. Brankin put in an appearance this morning with Eccentric, Huon Drift and General Link, and they were given easy work. All look well especially General Link, who has evidently got through a very solid preparation. A. Pringlc leaves Ashburton on Monday next with his team for the Metropolitan meeting. His Cup horse Moneymaker has come through a solid preparation with every satisfaction. The big track at Addington will be opened till 10 a.m. on Monday for horses engaged at the Metropolitan meeting. Sixteen yearlings arrived from the Waikanac stud by this morning's steamer. They arc to be submitted to auction next , week. Two of Mr J. C.rigg's recent importations from England have lately been taken up by \V. M'Donald. Both arc three-year-olds, Gay Lad being by Cellini from Guysome, and Saxlcy by Saxham from Thor Maid. It is to he hoped that the Ashburton sportsman will have better luck with them than attended I'leclham's efforts. All the horses that will be racing at Riccarton next week are now at headquarters, and they number just as many as in previous years. Last night's heavy rain left the big track at Addington quite unfit for work this morning, and it was not opened. This was a great disappointment to many trainers who intended giving their charges strong work-outs. A number of horses were exercised on the small track dining the forenoon, but the state of the going prevented fast work. An Improved ticket-selling arrangement in connection with Mr YV. H. Macdougull's totallsator will ]>c demonstrated at nine o'clock on Monday morning. After being on the e»sy list for somo time Tamarisk has been put into work again by R. Heay. Wildwood Junr's son will not be raced at the Addington meeting, but may sport :,i!k at the New Brighton fixture. J. Hryce has two very promising representatives engaged in the Great Northern Trotting Derby, namely Queen Chimes and Norwood. An excellent programme has been drawn up for the Canterbury Park Trotting Club's meeting, which takes place on New Year's Day. The most important event is the Champion Handicap of 1000 sovs, which is open only to horses that have done t.:!C> or better. A recent addition to N. Price's team at Canterbury Park is the grey pacing gelding Blackford, who put up several smart performances last season. The enterprise of the Auckland Trotting Club in placing a race for three-year-olds on the programme of its Summer* meeting has not met with a fitting response from owners. Only eight horses have been engaged, and the majority of these hail from Canterbury stables. No doubt the excellent form shown by Albeit Cling at the Oamaru Trotting Club's meeting last month kept many owners from nominating. On Tuesday evening. ;it the Colosseum, the successful horsemen in the New Zealand Cup and .Metropolitan Trotting Cup will be handed presentation whips sis souvenirs of the Carnival of Merriment.
