PIGEON FLYING.

CANTERBURY CLUB. The Canterbury Flying Club flew the first race of the season from Wellington, 135 birds competing, representing 1!) owners. The birds were tossed by Mr ,1. F. Le Grys at 9 a.m., the wind being strong nor'-west. At the home end the wind was nor'-east, and favourable for fast flying, enabling the birds to make good time. The race resulted in a win for Mr J. Shipton, his bird, No. 89, Hying the 190 miles in 1 hours Hi minutes, a velocity of 1316 yards per minute. Other competitors were:—Wondhousc Bros.' Aristocrat 1337 yds, \V. Terry's Pilot 1331 yds, W. Blanchard's bird 1329 yds. ,1. His lop's bird 1329 yds, A. Gerard's bird 1327 yds, F. Wilson's bird 132<>yds, F, Kingsford's bird 1321 yds, E. Fuch's Pindlc 1313 yds, C. Shaw's bird 1305 yds, F. Smith's bird 1302 yds, Barter Bros.' bird 1298 yds, H. Gates's bird 1281 yds, G. Anderson's bird 1211 yds, H. Hill's bird 1211 yds. F. Kibblewhite's bird 1187 yds, C. Kirklcy's bird 1161 yds, H. Browning's bird 1057 yds, B. J. Finuegan's bird 1027 yds. The club also Hew- a single bird interval race. . There were 14 competitors, and the birds were liberated at 10 minute intervals. The winning bird, Imperial Bed, owned by Woodhousc Bros., flying the 180 miles 187 yds in 5 hours 25 minutes 25 seconds, a velocity of lOOOvds. Mr H. Hill's bird, No. 83, second, velocity 1028 yds; W. Blanchard's No. 1117 third, 930 yds. K. Fuchs's Jack of Spades 805 yds and H. Browning's bird 092 yds were the other competitors to time in. ___^
