THE GISBORNE FIRE.
CLERK CHARGED WITH ARSON AND THEFT. Press Association. GISBORNE, November 1. As a further sequel to the recent gasworks fire, John Sheriff Dods, elerk at the gasworks, was arrested by De teetive MeLeod to-day, and brought before the 'Magistrate, charged with ar son and the theft ,of various sums be longing to the company. Detective McLeod, in applying for f remand, said Dods had confessed to tin misappropriation of a very large sun of money. A remand till Friday week was granted, bail—in self £SOO ami two sure ties of £SOO each —being allowed. Frank Parnell, on remand on ; charge of arson at the gasworks, wil appear at the Magistrate's Court to morrow, when a further remand will b< asked for.
