NGAURUHOE STILL ACTIVE.
Press Association. AUCKLAND, October 31. A Waiinarino correspondent of the “Herald” reports that, though heavj rain has obscured Ngauruhoe since Sat unlay, frequent detonations indicate that the mountain still is in a state ot great activity. Earth tremors are fre qnent, and at times a strong smell ol sulphur is noticeable. A warder at the main camp on the ! Prison Department’s road constructioi works states that early yesterday morn ing, though the summit of the volcanc was hidden, large volumes of blade i smoke were visible for a few moments rising to a groat height. One of the ' most startling explosions was heard a' i 10.30 this morning.
