AMUSEMENT TAX.
NO DECISION YET REACHED. The conference of directors of picture theatres, which met this morning to consider the question of whether or not to pass on the amusement tax to the public, did not succeed in reaching a decision. It is understood that a majority desire to pass the tax on to the public, but one firm definitely refuses to do this while another is inclined , to take that course. Although no decision was reached this morning negotiations have not been abandoned but will be resumed this afternoon. K is suggested that it will not be surprising if, in spite of the opposition of the one firm, tbe majority of houses decide that the "public must pay." The amusement tax will be enforced by the Government tomorrow.
