TROUT FISHING.

SUPPLIES FOR THE PUBLIC. Trout fishing in the lakes of the North Island will commence to-morrow, and arrangements are practically complete for procuring fish to supply to the public. This year Lake Rotorua will not be netted. Instead, Lakes Rotoiti and Tarawera will be netted. Speaking to a Wellington '' Post'' reporter yesterday, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. G. W. Russell), said that all arrangements had been made for establishing the necessary curing works and for transporting the fish to Rotorua. There will be a development at Taupo fisheries. As hitherto, the northern end of the lake will be reserved for tourists, and netting will take place entirely at the southern end from Tokaanu. Hitherto the department has been greatly handicapp'ed in transporting the fish from Tokaanu by having to use the coaches from Waiouro. This year the road from Waimarino is being completed as rapidly as possible, and fish will be taken from Tokaanu to Waimarino in a few hours. Previously it was a long coaching day. The fish will be taken on a motor-lorry, which the department has obtained, and will arrive at Waimarino in the evening. Then it will be taken by goods train to Ohakune, remaining there until picked up by the Auckland express, which will land it in Wellington at 1.20 p.m.. Prison gangs are now employed making the road to Waimarino fit for motor traffic, and in the meantime the motor-lorry is being used to transport the workers from the prison camp to the scene of their labours. Big supplies of fish will not be available until after the middle of the month. Arrangements have been made, however, for taking the fish to Wellington, and it is anticipated that these supplies will be placed on the market at lower prices than last year, so that as great a proportion of the people as possible will be able to obtain this wholesome and tasty food.
