« KAKAIA CLUB. Tlie annual meeting of the Rakaia Tennis and Croquet Club was held in the Library on Saturday evening, Mrs J. Sowdcn presiding over a large attendance. The report presented by the secretary (Mr J. Penny) showed that Very substantial assistance had been received from the Domain Board, £O3 in cash being received as well as generous donations of trees and shrubs- The club had no liabilities, and had £lO 19/8 in hand, with a membership of over a hundred. The committee suggested that the opening day be on Saturday next at 2 p.m., so as to coincide with the opening of the bowling club's green. It was also suggested that matches be arranged with tile Ashbuiton, Methven, Dunsandel, Leeston, and Southbridge clubs, to be played on the same days as the bowling clubs matches. The report was adopted without discussion. The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mrs C. A. C, Hardy; president, .Mrs J. The annual general meeting of the Linwood Lawn Tennis Club was held on Friday last, Mr Borrows presiding over a fair attendance. The financial statement showed an excess of expenditure over receipts for the year and the amount to be carried forward is £6O 17/10, as compared with £9B 15/3 for the previous year. Nicholson, R. K. Nottingham, A. E. Pannell, F. M. Sheppard, C. M. Sheppard, H. A. Steel, A. A. Scott, R. Turner, S. A. Prankerd. Three members of the club had made the supreme sacrifice—Lieutenant Carmody, Lieutenant Abernethy, and Corporal McKay. Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—Patron, Mr \V. Goss; president, Mr A. Borrows; vice-presidents, Messrs Dunnage, Slater, and Taylcr; lion, secretary and treasurer, Mr S. D. Denton; management committee, Messrs Armstrong, Anderson, Ault, Longuet, Sinclair, Sheppard, and Webb; delegates to Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association, Messrs Taylor and Denton. Opening day was lixed for Saturday, November 3.
