FIGHTING IN CHAMPAGNE. NEW FRENCH ATTACK. Higli Gommianioni r's Calle. LONDON, March 13 (1.20 p.m.). A French official communique states:—ln Champagne we developed this afternoon a new attack upon jthe German position west of Maisons jde Champagne on a front of one jinile. We carried all the enemy trenches and captured Ridge IXS, penetrating fortified works on the northward slopes. FIGHT ROUND VERDUN. SOISSONS BOMBARDED. A. and N.Z. Cable Association and Reuter. LONDON, March 13. A French official communique states:—An artillery duel is in progress on both banks of the Meuse. The Germans this afternoon bombarded the open town of Soissons with incendiary shells, causing several lires. BRITISH TRENCH RAIDS. SUCCESSFUL ENTERPRISES. A. and K.Z. Cable Association and Renter. LONDON, March 12. Sir Douglas Haig reports:—We ; slightly improved our position northeastward of Bouchavesnes, and entered trenches in the same neighbourhood, securing prisoners. 1 We raided trenches southwards of -Arras and bombed the dug-outs despite strong resistance. We inflicted many casualties. There have been many air lights and aerial activity continues.
