MUSICAL SOCIETY.

MEMBERS' ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Christchurch Musical Society was held last night. The attendance of members was large, and Mr. 7. A. Fleslier (president) was in the chair. The report stated that, the financial position continued to be a matter of grave concern, outstanding liabilities amounting to £:?ofi, and unpaid subscriptions to £10". Subscribing members totalled 188, and performing members 144. Reference was also made to the assistance lent by the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, ami to the valuable services of Dr Bradsh.w, who had agreed te continue rs conductor for the coming year. The society was als;o indebted t,> T)r Rredshaw for considerably relieving tho financial strain. Assets exceeded liabilities by £lO 15/11, and the. year's working showed a loss of £Bl. In moving the adoption of the report and ba la nee-sheet, which were approved, the chairman said that, despite adverse circumstance?, the society had about held its own. its position having improved since the last general meeting. He paid a tribute to the valuable services rendered by Mrs Livingstone, who had so ably acted as honorary accom panist. He also referred to the generous action of the soloists who had taken part in the society's performances. Their giving their services gratuitously had eased the financial burden considerably. He suggested that a special benefit concert be held during the year with the object of wiping out " the society's indebtedness. After speaking in terms of high praise regarding the work done by Dr Bradshaw, Mr. Flosher urged members to maintain their enthusiasm, and to use every endeavour to place the society on a firm footing. Office-bearers were elected as follow: President, Mr J. A. Flesher; vice-pre-sidents, Bishop Julius, Messrs W. Recce, W. Izard, W. Devenish Meares, L. Bounington and A. Kayo; treasurer, Mr. H. Antill Adley; librarian, Mr W. A. Roberts; auditor, Mr W. H. Cheesman; committee: Mesdames J. Robinson, W. J. Jenkin and Chaplin, Misses Shirtcliffe and Whitelaw, and Messrs G. Elidd, A. W. Roberts, W. L. Buchanan, W. J. Jenkin, C. 11. Schmidt, and H. Blakeley. Votes of thanks were accorded the officers of the society for their work during the year, and it was decided that a special letter of thanks be sent to Mrs Livingstone.
