Lord Liverpool's household staff left Elm-wood last night for Wellington. Lord and Lady Liverpool, who arc in Dunedin at present, will probably go north to-night. Visitors aT Coker's Hotel are Messrs S. S. W'hitcombe (Dunedin), W. F. iiarley (Greymouth), J. Talbot (Temuka), F. Gurney Auckland), and G. 11. Trott (Dunedin). Judge .1. B. Jack, of the Native Land Court, who has been stationed in Wanganui for the past seven years, has resigned, having acquired a partnership in a legal firm in Wanganui. Mr Willoughby, late officer in charge of the City Council's electricity inspection department, has been promoted to the position of officer in charge of the council's showrooms. Mr Griffith, of Dunedin, replaces Mr Willoughby in the inspection department. At. the annual meeting of the Albion Rugby Football Club, a presentation of a silver cake-stand and dutter-dish was made to Mr J. Mercer, on the occasion of his marriage. Mr Mercer has been secretary and treasurer of the club for some years. One of Otago's old-time footballers, "Chummy" Noel, has passed over to the great majority. In his day, Noel was one of the fastest and cleverest workers behind the scrum. He was a contemporary of such players as Jim Duncan, "Barney" Arrnit, and others who donned the jersey in the palmiest days of Otago football. The Christchurch Presbytery yesterday decided that the induction of the Rev. .7. C. Paterson to the charge of Lincoln should take- place on March 29, at 2.30 p.m.. The Rev. R. 11. Blahwill pfeside, the Rev. W. H. Howes will preach, Dr Frwin will address the minister, and the Rev. Geo. Lindsay will address the congregation. At the monthly, meeting of the Christchurch Presbytery yesterday, the Rev. A. T. Thompson moved the following resolution in connection with the death of the Rev. John Erwin: —"That the Presbytery learns with sorrow of the death of the Rev. John Erwin, M.A., and expresses its sympathy with his brother, the Rev. Dr Erwin, and his wife and family, still resident in New Zealand, and places on record the sense of loss sustained by our church at the early death of Mr John Erwin, a cultured scholar, a fearless speaker, and a devoted minister." The motion was carried iu silence, members standing. The Rev. Dr Erwin thanked the Presbytery for its kindly expression of sympathy.
