WOMEN'S COMMITTEE. The Women's Committee of the Re<i Cross Society acknowledges, with grateful thanks, assistance towards the luncheon and tea given for the soldiers returning by the hospital ship last Thursday:— (iifts in money—Mesdames B. The annual meeting of the above branch was held on March 1, a large number of members being present. The annual report and balance-sheet were read, showing the, branch to be in a very good financial position. The contributions for the vear have fallen from £s.'! 7/7 (1915-16) to £34 1 (1016-17), but the total receipts have increased from £llO 7/2 to £153 10/1. The branch was greatly indebted to Mr R. E. Hall, who, by his generous gifts of horse and bracelet, had been the means of adding £Ol (>/:> to the funds, and to Mrs Franks, sen., who had handed in her 200 th pair of socks at the last meeting. During the year the following articles have been sent to the Central Depot:—1!) under]>ants. )i shirts, 2.'il pairs socks, 27 pairs mittens, 23 balaclavas, 11 vests, 54 shirts, 4(57 handkerchiefs, 4 tray cloths, 10 bed jackets, 5 pairs bed socks, H operation shirts, (i medicine cloths, 1 pair kneecaps, .'(1 pyjamas. 12 nightshirts, .T7 slings. If) knitted face cloths, 25 towel face cloths, ,'l4 butter muslin face cloths, IS body belts, 4 dressing gowns, 15 diet clothes, 22 treasure bags, 1 scarf, 7 pillowslips, :! waistcoats, 8 bundles old linen. The resignation of Mrs Wilkinson, the secretary, was accepted with regret, and at the close of the meeting Mrs Hud son, the president, presented her, on behalf of the members, with a handbag, as an appreciation of her services during the past two years. The following officers were appointed: - —President, Mrs Hudson; secretary, Miss H. Freeman: treasurer, Mrs C'his nail; committee, Mesdames Franks, A. Johnston, Cox, Parish, and Misses John ston and Nicklaus; auditors. Mr Win. Johnston and Mr R. K. Hall; buyer. Miss Nicklaus; collector ami distributor, Mrs Johnston. The following articles . were handed in:—2l pairs socks, 1 pair kneecaps, 10S handkerchiefs, 2 balaclavas, 1 muffler, 0 bed jackets, 5 day shirts, 0 washers, 2 pyjamas, 5 flannel shirts. It was decided to ask Miss Freeman, of the city branch, to address a special meeting, to Ik- held in March, each member being urged to bring any interested, whether members of the branch or not.
