FOR CONVALESCENT SOLDIERS.
Princess Patricia has found one definite as well as original outlet for her energies, for she has taken the Canadians in their hospital at Orpington under her wing in very practical fashion, and has instituted handiwork effected by the aid of chintz, in which she is an adept. Each Thursday sees her scting forth with :; splendid collection of pieces of gaily patterned chintz, which she herself shows the men how to cut out and apply to different useful and pretty tilings. Princess Patricia is no mean artist, as frequenters of the Royal Amateur Art Society's shows in prewar days may remember, and under her guidance and her inspiration really beautiful results are achieved with the charmingly coloured flowers and foliage, birds and butterflies which figure on so much good chintz, nowadays. The work calls for considerable care, and no little skill in iho cutting out of the pattern alone, and in this use of their hands, demanding the direction of will and concentration of thought, very real advantage accrues to the men, as well as Ihe alleviation of those tedious hours of sickness. Naturally the men who can point to lampshade or cushion-cover in which her fingers have actually played their part are extraordinary proud, and Thursday was a gala day for them all.
