BRITISH AND FOREIGN SAILORS' SOCIETY.

LYTTELTON BRANCH.

The fifth annual meeting of the Ladies' Guild of the British and Foreign Sailors' Society was held at the Institute, Lyttelton, on Tuesday last. The president, Mrs M. J. Miller, was in the cltair, and there was a fair attendance of members, also representatives from Opawa and Sumner Guilds. The annual report and balance-sheet were read and considered satisfactory. Much good work has been done.by the guild during the past year for our sailors in port, anil those far away. Many social evenings, Sunday teas, and services have been held in the Institute, several of the members willingly devoting much time to entertaining Jack ashore. Comfort bags, etc., were made and sent to naval hospital ships and transports, and the men in port had their usual entertainments and gifts at Christmas time. Several cases of woollen comforts have been forwarded to the London branch for distribution, and a letter of appreciation was received from the secretary, Mrs A. Barns. The following officers were elected for the ousuihg year:—President, Mrs M. J. Miller; vice-presidents, Mrs Whitby, Mrs Smith, Mrs Bromley, and Mrs Radcliffe; secretary. Miss Meikle; corresponding secretary, Miss Owens; treasurer, Miss Ollivcr.
