LOCAL AND GENERAL.

Hi 11. \T. Bishop, S.M.. sat at the"' Magistrate's Court yesterday, when, for i motoring at excessive speed in the Heathcote County. A. J. Higgs, Herbert Longton, James Molloy, G. P. Payne, Francis Ruck, W. J. Scott, B. C. Smith, and Percival Smith were each fined 60/- and costs. On a similar change, Rer.a Hood was fiued 10/- and costs. George Partridge was fined 10/- and costs for allowing a cow to wander unattended on the roads. The trouldes of Elizabeth Ann Curlett and her husband, Huston Curlett, came up for their periodical ventilation at the Magistrate's Court vesterday, before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, s!m. The present case had been adjourned from a previous hearing. The wife alleged that her husband, from whom she was separated under a court order, had rented a house nest door to her residence, and occupied his spare time in gazing over the dividing fence and smiling at her. Mr Rowe represented Huston Curlett. The Magistrate said that undoubtedly the husband had been annoying his wife, and he would therefore convict him, but would withhold sentence for 14 days, to give Curlett an opportunity of giving up possession of the property. Mr J. S. Evans, S.M., i-hairman of the Military Service Board for the Canterbury Military District, and Messrs J. D. Millton and E. C. Stu.lholme, members of the board, returned this morning from Wellington, where a conference of Military Service Boards was held yesterday.
