APPEAL BOARDS.

OTAGO SITTINGS. Press Association. DUNEDIN, December 9. The Military Service Board sat at Palmerston to-day. Eleven appeals were heard. William A. Wright and Alick Wright, fanners at Palmerston, appealed on the ground that enlistment was contrary to the public interest, and would cause undue hardship. William said he had a wife and four children depending on him, and they would be unprovided for if he were called up. The appeal was allowed, and appellant was transferred to the second division. As Alick Wright had no brother belonging to the first division, his appeal was allowed. Neil Bannatyne, farm assistant, appealed on the ground that he was under military age.

The appeal was allowed, and counsel informed the board that his client would enlist as soon as he reached military-agc.

The appeal of Alexander Banna'tyne, farm manager, Waikouaiti, was allowed on the ground that he had no brother in the first division. Adam Bell (farmer), Peter William Bell (dairy farmer), and Robert Bell (shepherd) appealed on the ground that they were not reservists. Evidence tendered showed thai all the appellants were over age, and the appeals were allowed. For a similar reason the appeals of Samuel Henry Allcock and John Thomas Allcock, farmers, Waikouaiti, were also allowed.

George Cummings and Charles Cummings, farmers, appealed on the grounds of undue hardship, and that enlistment was against the public interest. Evidence showed that the appellants were single men, thai they worked two farms, and had incurred financial obligations. The chairman said the financial questions would be discussed al a conference of hoards to be held in Wellington. The board was of opinion, however, that one of the men should go. Both appeals would he adjourned, in that appellants might be medic w v examined.
