GARDEN PARTY AT'"BARONSCOURT."

IN AID OF RED CROSS WORK. This afternoon a verv well arranged garden party was held' at "Baronscourt, Rieeartou, the residence of Mr T. Kincaid. The affair was organised by the Riccarton Red Cross workers to whom Mr Kincaid loaned the beautiful grounds surrounding Baronscourt, for the afternoon and evening. Mr A. E. G. Rhodes, who was accompanied by Mrs Rhodes and Mrs George Rhodes, performed the opening ceremonv, and in doing so, made a brief speech on Red Cross matters. In addition to the branches having to provide a fund for ! materials, Mr Rhodes said that in the future even more would be asked of them. It was estimated that about £IOO per month was required for soldiers' comforts in the hospitals in New Zealand, and the branches were going to be asked to assist in providing this amount. A Red Cross conference representative of the four large centres, would be held about Januarv. and this matter would then be considered. However, the Central Depot was anxious to know beforehand how far the branches would help in the matter. Up to date 'some £60,000 worth of material had been | sent away for the wounded during the Mast 20 months. It would never have j been possible to purchase so much if the • funds had not been at the disposal of branches, and garden parties such as the I present one were most useful in keeping up supplies. He expressed the gratitude of the society to Mr Kincaid for the loan of his beautiful grounds, and had much pleasure in declaring the garden party open. The function will be continued tonight until 10 o'clock. Numerous side shows were arranged, including a ''howling Alley" (under the charge of ,Mr L. Harper); roulette (Mr N. Woods); Houpla (Mr P. Kincaid and W. M. Angus). The Boys "Rough Band" recruited from the members of the Upper Riccarton Guild, dancing on the lawn by a number of girls, and the services of the Tramway Band, helped to further swell the attraction-list. There were numerous gaily decorated stalls, including:—Produce (Mrs Kirkwood, Miss Bowen. Miss Hansen, Miss I Sheet); "Anzae" Flower Stall (Mrs . Shand and Miss Budge); Tea Stall | (wives and friends of the Riccarton Oddfellows); Toys (Misses Robinson (2), and Miss K. Kincaid); ice-creams ami fruit salad (Mrs E.
