Messrs T. 11. Cooper (Wellington) and 1). Barker (New Brighton) are staying at the Clarendon Hotel. Captain C. J. Newell, Deputy Assistant Director of Dental Services, was a passenger for the north last evening. Messrs F. W. Watt (Ashburton), R. Bell (Ashburton), H. E. Kugelman (Wellington) are among the guests at the United Service Hotel.

Messrs D. Lynch (Greymouth,, G. H. Eobinsou (Greymouth), G. F. Scott (Ashburton), E. Henderson (Lyttelton) arc staying at Coker's Hotel. A Press Association cablegram from London last night announced that Lieut. Gladstone Ward had recovered, and had resumed his military duties.

Visitors to Warner's Hotel include Messrs W. Appleton (Wellington), J. A. Stewart (Wellington), G. Harris (San Francisco), and W. D. McCrea (Sydney). The Ruahine, which arrived at Auckland yesterdav, had among her passengers Lieut. W. H. Stainton, a holder of the Military Cross. Lieut. Stainton served on Gallipoli, and subsequently in France, where he gained his distinction. He has returned to report for duty. Dr A. McGibbon, who is a major in the New Zealand Medical corps, has, during the absence of Lieut.-Colonel R. W. Anderson, been given the temporary rank of lieutenant-colonel. Lieut.Colonel Anderson is to take command of the hospital ship Maheno, ou her next voyage.

The Rev. A. C. Lawry has secured the service of Sister Constance, sister of the Rev. C. Olds, for the position of deaconess for the president's pastoral work in the St. Albans' circuit, and she will discharge the duties of the position for the remainder of the connexional vear.

Mr Lewis Hancock, of the G.P.0., who is leaving shortly to join the Motor Boat Patrol Service, was met recently, and presented by his office friends with a case of silver-mom ted pipes. Mr Hancock, who has had considerable experience with speed boats, has been given a commission as sub-lieutenant in the service.

The "Methodist Times" states'that many who knew Sister Alice 80w...an in Christchurch a few years ago, will regret to hear that she has died under sad circumstances. Her husband, I inceCorporal W. S. Harrold, is now on active service in France. She left two children, one five years and the other two weeks old.
