MACKENSEN'S ADVANCE.
17,000 PRISONERS TAKEN. A. and N.Z. Gable Association and Renter. LONDON, December 5. A Berlin communique says:— General von Maekensen is pursuing and breaking the resistance of the enemy's rearguards. He has crossed the railway from Bucharest to Tergoviste towards the east. The number of prisoners taken here since December 3 has increased to 12,500, while 4500 have been taken elsewhere.

AUSTRIANS CLAIM GAINS
.1. and N.Z. Cable Association and Renter. LONDON, December 6. An Austrian ollicial message says:—An Austro-German counterattack in the Carpatl. s deprived the Russians of all their recent local gains. Russian attacks on the Moldavian frontier were repulsed with heavy loss.
