LATE PERSONALS.

Gunner John Francis Foley, dangerously wounded, is a son of Mr J. Foley, Sherbourne Street, St. Albans. He is '22 years of age. He was born at Rakaia and educated at Duntroou (near Oamaru), and at Taihape. After leaving school he was engegad with his father farming. His relatives have received advice that he is dangerously ill in the Australian Stationary Hospital.

It is evident that Sir Kruest Shackleton will not arrive in Christchureh on Saturday, as was expected. In reply to a communication sent at the instance of the Mayor of Christchurch, asking whether a civic reception would be acceptable to him. Sir Ernest, who is now in Wellington, has telegraphed as follows to. the town clerk: —"Please con vov to the Mayor my appreciation of the proposed honour, but business here makes my movements uncertain. But I will give three days' notice of my arrival." it is evident that, besides the civic reception, Sir Kruest will be entertained by the New Zealand Club at luncheon. On Wednesday afternoon, Mr P. E. Lynskoy, who Ins been transferred from the Rangiora branch of the.Bank of New Zealand lo the Christchurch office, was entertained by Mr and Mrs W. E. Barton at. a gathering of bank o!;i eors. Ife was the recipient of a pipe and tobacco pouch. Mr Barton, who made the presentation, referred to the many good i|Uatilies of Mr Lynskoy, and said he had proved himself not only an aide oOicer, but had made himself extremely popular both with the stall' and witli customers.
