THE DISTRICT MATCHES. THIRD SERIES STARTED. Dull weather, with occasional light showers of drizzling rain, prevailed this afternoon for the first day's play in the third series of matches in (he Canterbury Cricket Association's competitions. After about two hours' play the rain caused a cessation of play for the day. WEST CHRISTCHURCH v. BOYS. HIGH SCHOOL. Playing at Hagley Park. Boys' High School made a good start against West Christchurch, D. W. Reese and Q. A. Wright putting on 59 for the first wicket. The second wicket fell at 85, and the third at HI. The score went up steadily, the wetness of the ball hampering the bowlers. LINWOOD V. ST. ALBANS. These teams met on Lancaster Park this afternoon and Linwood, winning the toss, elected to bat. At 3.13, when 57 runs had been scored for Ihc loss of five wickets rain, which had been threatening all the morning, began to fall and necessitated a stoppage of play. After 15 minutes adjournment, play was resumed although a slight drizzle made the ball greasy and difficult to hold. Linwood's first innings closed for 110.
