NEW BRIGHTON.
The secretary (Miss J. M. Reid) of the Ladies' Red Cross Society reports a splendid meeting on Tuesday. The making of aprons was proceeded with in a very businesslike manner. There is a fine assortment of these articles, and also a few children's tunics. Ladies are i reminded that donations for the cake land sweets stall will be very gratefully [received at the Pier Hall before 2j I o'clock. The need for Red Cross funds i is more pressing than ever, and a good I sum for this purpose should be raised jat the Flower Show on November 20. j Cakes, Christmas puddings, and sweets will be especially suitable, but donations of any sort will be welcomed. The i committee wish to acknowledge, with ; thanks, a donation of £1 from Mrs Kaglosomo. The weekly No. 1 collection ! for bandages realised 10/9. Exhibitors at the Flower Show to he held next Wednesday are reminded that entries close on Monday with the Rev. H. Mathias. Any gifts of flowers, pot plants, and bedding-out plants, etc., will be thankfully received. The proceeds are in aid of the Red Cross funds. Although a great amouut of work has (been done in New Brighton on behalf ;of the Lady Liverpool Funds, official !branches have not been formed except I at North Brighton, but the position will ibe rectified, as a public meeting is to •be held in the Pier Hall on December 1 at .') p.m., when arrangements will ; be made for the formation of a branch jat South Brighton. Mrs Holland, Mayoress of Christchurch, will deliver an address. On Saturday evening, at Paekwood's Store, Cashmere, the Brighton No. 3 Unit fired a match with the Cashmere Unit. The Cashmere team_ beat New Brighton by 11 points. The highest j scorers were:—Cashmere: Diack 69, Hawkins (19, Barman OS, Peak 6S, Hansley 68; total, 674. New Brighton: C. Israelsou 70, Mann 67, Buchanan 67, Hawker 67; total, 663. On Wednesday evening the No. 1 unit paraded in town and took part in imanoeuvres in Hagley Park. There was a good muster of the local platoon, j Several members handed in their names I to assist at the Rose Carnival and Do-1 main Pete to be held next Saturday. I On Tuesday evening the ladies' miniature rifles fired a match between the single and married members. The result was in favour of the married ladies; The brooch competitions w T ere fired. Had Miss Dennis's target been checked by means of the tester she would have scored a possible. Mrs Burmeister won the silver brooch with a score of 59. On Thursday the Cathedral Choir held a picnic at Pleasant Point. The motor boat club members placed their boats at their disposal. On Monday evening the fire, brigade will hold a wet practice, and will flood the bowling green. This afternoon the Sydenham Club will try conclusions with the Brightouites. '
