RANGIORA TECHNICAL SCHOOL.

DEMONSTRATION OF WORK. The annual break-up of the woodwork and cookery classes of the Rangiora Technical School was held yesterday afternoon. There was an excellent attendance of parents, scholars, and interested parties. Afternoon tea was provided by the teacher and pupils of the cooking classes, and the excellent quality of the confectionery gave pleasing evidence of the success of their year's work. Addresses were given bv Messrs R. Ball (chairman High School Board), W. A. Banks (member of the Board of Education), F. B. Lane (chairman of the Borough School Committee), 11. F. Thomson (Sefton School), and T. R. Cresswell, M.A. (Director of Technical School). It was stated that attendances at I the classes had increased very materially during the past year, the roll in woodwork and cookery alone being 240. The scholars at present attending the school were from Rangiora, Borough, Convent, South-] brook,, Waikuku, Saltwater Creek,'; Springbank. Loburn, N. Loburn, Ashley, Sefton, Mt. Grey, and Rangiora High School. Mr R. Ball, chairman of the High! School Board, who presided, thanked Miss Wright ami her pupils for, their entertainment. Mr T. R. Cresswell, principal of the High School and director of the! technical classes, pointed out that! the institution was almost entirely i supported by school classes, the' town not being large enough to run evening classes on a payable basis. As the outcome of a conference between Mr W. Brock, Chief Inspector, teachers of the primary schools in the neighbourhood, and those controlling the classes, a programme of j work was arranged, which had been j of a successful character, there being at the present time 210 pupils on j the class registers. The school was i serving a very useful purpose in the I district, and he hoped to see its; benefits stil! more largely taken ad-j vantage of by the enrolment of scholars from other primary schools j within reach. He expressed his ap-1 preciation of the services of Miss | Wright and Mr Hargreaves. i Mr Hargreaves said that a pleasing I feature of his work was that the: teachers of the outlying schools accompanied their pupils, and thereby; gained a practical knowledge of the! work in hand. Miss Wright said the children took j a keen interest in their work, especrally the practical side. The attendance had been good, particularly from the Fernside School, not a child having missed being present throughout the year.
