The new Lighting Act operated for ;a short time to-day, when candles iwere requisitioned for interior lighting, but a meeting of the newly- ! appointed Light and Power Board 'decided to give the city twenty-four ! hours' grace. It is now proposed to cut off all power from midnight on Sunday, land private lighting, including that jof theatres and private houses, at I midnight on Monday. The penalty i provided for contravention of the j order is £SOO fine. LITHGOW MINERS. DETERMINED TO WIN. J (Received November 18, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 18. A mass meeting of Lithgow miners j unanimously resolved to light for : eight hours bank-to-bank. The miners do not intend to return ! to work until this has been granted.
