NOTES ON YESTERDAY'S RACING.

Banian stood out in a class by himself in the Suburban Hurdle Held, and though he was conceding close on lour stone to most of his opponents that did not deter backers from making him a very strong order. He ran an excellent race under his load, but did not fence nearly as smartly as -on Monday. St. Curio took charge at the end of half a mile, with Compulsion heading the others. At no subsequent stage of the proceedings was the result in doubt, for the North Canterbury representative jumped cleanly till reaching the last; obstacle. Here he pecked badly, but! it made no difference to the result, for on the flat he had altogether too: much pace for the opposition. Banian struggled on with the utmost courage, and outstayed Critic for: third money.

i Eight smart two-year-olds lincil up ifor the Spring Nursery Handicap,! J and their shiftiness at the barrier' | taxed the patience of the starter. [When the harrier went up Ample and j Lovesick both swung round, losing I several lengths. Mountjoy looked to ! have winning prospects at the dis- | tance, where he had just settled the pretentions of Lingerie and Elocution. Then Ample came with a fine [effort, and defeated the Karamu re-; jpresentative by a length. It was a remarkable performance on the part of Mi' Stead's filly, for in the early stages of the journey she was standing Mountjov up fully half a dozen i lengths. Two Wellington representatives in Seadown and Gold Soldi monopolised Hie bitting in the Avon Welter. C.lynelish and Leading Lady did not begin with the others, while Seadown was slow to get going. Alter. Findhorn, Yes, and Comely had forced l!ie naee till well into the! home straight, Gold Soult worked; his way to the front and looked all over a winner. Inside the distance Black Ada threw out a strong challenge, and, favoured by her light weight, just got her head in front as the post was reached. Hunting, who was purchased by Mr E. J. Watt on Tuesday, and ran in the Hawke's Bay i sportsman's interest, was putting in good work at the finish. Seadown never got near the leading division,, while Findhorn and Yes faded out! either badly at the business end. I
