SCHOOL INSPECTORS.
EMPLOYMENT OF WOMEN. Press Association. AUCKLAND, October 4. 'ihe Board of Education, after a lively discussion, appointed a returned soldier as clerk at £l5O year in preference lo a young man whose qualifications were admitted, hut who was of military age and had dependents. There were nine applicants. Replying lo a suggestion that a woman inspector of schools should be appointed for the Auckland District, the Education Department replies that the Act provides for the employment of female inspectors to look after matters specially pertaining to girls and infant work. This had not been lost sight of, but as such inspectors could not take the place of inspectors at present employed, but would be supplementary, the lime did not appear opportune for such an extension.
