RAILWAY FATALITY.
INQUEST AT ASHBURTON. An inquest was held at Ashburton this morning, before the Coroner, Mr V. G. Day, touching the death of John Suflield, who was killed by a train in the Ashburton railway yards last Thursday week. Ernest Henry Colvin said that he saw deceased step out from behind a meat w'aggon, right in front of the engine. When the engine pulled up the man was underneath. John Hayward, driver of the train, said that the fireman looked out to see that all was clear, when he felt a slight bump. The train was stopped, and deceased was found underneath. The Coroner returned a verdict of accidental death, no blame being attachable to anyone, the driver and fireman being absolutely exonerated.
